Welcome to Year 5
Although Bryony is unable to join us in school, we are still continuing with our Forest School work for John Muir. The dates for Bryony to lead us on our adventures will be rearranged when possible. For the moment, please can children still come into school wearing their Forest School clothes and bringing a packed lunch on Wednesday 25th March, as we will be spending the day in Forest School. As usual, please bring waterproofs and coats, etc.
Reading, Spelling and Maths
Additionally, please remember that we are asking children to bring their Reading Record Books and Spelling Books in daily, completing as much at home as possible! Bookmarks, stickers, certificates and smart stamps are all on offer for children who show their love of reading! We are asking children to have read at least 3 times each week at home.
We are also looking for children to improve their times tables as they are a key aspect of Maths. Please can children access TimesTable Rockstars as much as they can. Who will become a lead member of the Rockstars band?! Practice makes perfect!
Please remember to bring PE kits on Tuesdays and Wednesdays where Year 5 will develop their fitness and Cricket skills
We have updated the Home Learning Folder to include some suggested activities for home-learning projects for children who are unable to come into school in the light of the latest government guidelines. All children should have a Maths and English text book at home and these can be used be used as a basis for learning activities without specific homework tasks needing to be set from school. Children who were present at the end of the day on Tuesday 17th March have been issued with their log ins for Bug Club, Times Table Rockstars and Mathletics. If parents of children who were absent on this date wish to have these details sent out, please contact the office who will pass on your request to the Year 5 team.
Finally, the BBC have an interactive website- BBC Bitesize KS2 which also provides useful and valuable learning opportunities for children. BBC Teach Live Lessons are now available and these can also be accessed as a catch-up service. https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/live-lessons
Best wishes to you all.
