12 January 2018
The highlight of the week was undoubtedly the choir who sang in the Young Voices concert at the Genting Arena in Birmingham on Wednesday evening. To be part of a 6,500 strong choir performing in such a venue is an experience that will be remembered for many years. Children’s behaviour was exceptional throughout the day. Despite the much delayed journey, the day was a huge success. Thanks to the staff involved for organising such a fabulous event.
In the first week of the year, the class trophies were won by 2Y and 6CW. Two more Gold certificates were earned which is a great achievement; these are the reward for 20 weeks of scoring over 1000 points. The year’s total is now 687 Bronze, 132 Silver and 11 Gold certificates.
The Owl and the Pussycat
Over the last fortnight, we have had a whole school creative project based upon The Owl and the Pussycat by Edward Lear. Children have been involved in exploring the story within the poem in Literacy and then developing it across many subject areas. It has been a delight to see the different interpretations and practical activities in the different classrooms including plasticine pigs with rings in their noses on 3D models and maps of the journey in Year 6, ‘Wanted’ posters and designing model guitars in Years 3 and 4 and treasure hunt translations and garden birds research linked to Lear’s pictures of British garden birds in Year 5. Next week is the final week of this project, so we look forward to lots more interesting activities taking place
A Reception Wedding
To support our whole school project of ‘The Owl and the Pussycat’ Reverend Alan Walton led two fantastic weddings in RG and RV on Monday afternoon. The children were assigned roles during the ceremony, which they played brilliantly. It was a great experience that they have been talking about all week.

Today we said goodbye (for a while) to Mrs Gladwin who leaves temporarily to start her maternity leave. We wish her the very best of luck and will bring you news of the new arrival when the time comes.
Please can we remind you that if your child is not going to be in school for any reason, you need to telephone the school before 9.30 am on each day of absence.
