Dear Parents

Harvest Festival
The Harvest Festival was a wonderful occasion on Tuesday, thank you for the food donated for the Telford Food Bank. The children were a credit to everyone concerned and I was delighted to hear that so many of you were able to join in with the celebrations too. Thank you for your support.

Flu Vaccination
All children in Reception, Year 1, Year 2, Year 3 and Year 4 will receive the nasal flu vaccination in school on Friday 8 December.  Consent Forms will be distributed nearer the date.

Secondary Transfer
A reminder that the Year 6 Secondary School Applications must be completed by 31 October.

Data Checking Sheets
There are a number of Data Checking Sheets still outstanding.  Please can these be returned as soon as possible as this information is vital for us to ensure our records are up to date. Please help us to keep the children safe.

The Happy Puzzle Company
Each class had a very exciting session with the Happy Puzzle Company this week, working as teams and taking on a wide range of missions.  There was a real buzz on both days and it was pleasing to have many reports of children using their MAGIC qualities of ‘gumption’ and ‘grit’ and  not giving up even when they found the activities challenging.  The fun continued after school on Tuesday with a well-attended puzzle workshop.  Thank you to all the parents and children who supported this now annual event.

Mathletics
Our weekly ‘Oscar’ ceremony on Monday once again saw some new winners proudly taking custody of their class’s owl for the week and 2Y and 5L taking over the leadership of the class totals charts.  Due to the visit of the Happy Puzzle Company, some of the children in KS2 were concerned whether the ceremony would still take place, but were quickly reassured. (The wonders of having two halls!)  It is super to again witness first-hand the enthusiastic commitment that so many of the children are making to this weekly challenge.  The weekend saw one child re-enter the World Hall of Fame and a further two children join her on the UK Hall of Fame, one of whom was a surprised first-time recipient of the accompanying badge! The total for the number of certificates awarded this year has now reached 157 Bronze, 29 Silver and 3 Gold.

MAGIC
Last Friday, we launched this term’s whole school MAGIC initiative.   Over the last few weeks, we have had numerous enquiries from children about when the MAGIC assemblies were coming back, so there was a real air of excitement as the much requested ‘purple cloaks’ reappeared.   In the same way as last year, this is designed to help all children to continue to develop and strengthen the ‘learning habits’ that will bring success.  Each week for the next five weeks, we will be focusing on a new ‘habit’.  This week’s letter ‘M’ stands for Motivation.  Across the school, the children in each class have taken part in a range of learning activities around this theme.  In Reception, the children were introduced to the idea of motivation whilst in Years 1-6 the activities were designed to make them more self-aware of strategies they can use to manage their moods in order to increase their motivation levels.  On Thursday, it was particularly pleasing to have feedback from a visitor to school about how excited and keen his pupil guides were to tell him about their work in ‘MAGIC’.  Well done for being such fantastic ambassadors!

Year 5/6 Girls Football – Cluster League
Last Friday, we had our next fixture in the cluster league, Randlay Primary School. The first half was a good battle with both teams working hard, Randlay scored twice with two great counter attacks before half-time. The girls gathered themselves together and talked through the game plan, they were not beaten. They went into the 2nd half more determined than ever! Everyone chased the ball, made great passes and wore down the Randlay defence, scoring the first with 10 minutes to go, quickly followed by the 2nd. The spectators kept up their great support and with a fantastic finish got the 3rd goal to win 3-2. A fantastic effort, well done! The girls are currently 2nd with three games still to play.
