15 December 2017
This has been a very different week for us that started last Friday with the early enforced closure of school, resulting in my first missed newsletter since I started in September 2011, so I should apologise for that.
This week’s newsletter combines with last week’s.
I should like to thank everyone for their understanding about the decisions we have had to make over the past week. Such decisions are never easy, but I am happy that they were the correct ones at the correct time. We were able to open as soon as possible after the snow due to the fantastic team effort from both families and staff which demonstrated the great team spirit that exists here. Despite the snow, we have been able to enjoy:
2 x Reception Nativity plays;
2 x Y1/2 Nativity plays;
1 x Key Stage 2 Christmas Extravaganza;
1 x Reception / LD trip to the pantomime;
1 x Key Stage 1 disco;
1 x Key Stage 2 disco;
1 x Christmas dinner, serving approximately 370 people;
1 x Christmas whole school sing-a-long.
The children have conducted themselves fantastically throughout all the disruption and we are now all feeling in the Christmas spirit. We have enjoyed wonderful performances across the school with smiles all around. Thank you again for your support and understanding.
On Tuesday 5 December, we took a Year 3/4 gymnastic team to Wrekin College. They had to complete a floor routine and a skill using the vault. With 21 other teams competing, John Fletcher of Madeley came joint 3rd! Sadly, a mix up at the presentation meant our team didn't know at the event but their medals have now arrived in the post. A fantastic achievement by all. Well done!
Y6 Revision Clubs
Due to the school closure days this week, the letters for these will be sent out in the first week of term. Please look out for them in your children’s bags as we aim to start them as soon as possible.
Congratulations to 6CW who won the KS2 class trophy for the last two weeks. 2Y were the winners of last week’s EYFS/KS1 trophy and they have been followed this week by LD; a remarkable achievement once again for 7 children! Last week also saw the start of an additional reward system - a termly leaderboard - which averages out the number of points gained per child in the class; 6CW is currently first in KS2 and the school, whilst LD is leading EYFS/KS1 and is second overall in the school. Congratulations to all the children in these classes- keep it up! In the last fortnight we have also had three entries onto the UK Hall of Fame; a very productive way of keeping warm in this inclement weather! So far this year we have presented 677 Bronze, 119 Silver and 9 Gold certificates.
DO NOT climb on the wall – South drive
People have generally been very sensible around the site during the snowy and icy conditions. Please continue this after Christmas and do not allow your children to climb on the wall that runs down the South drive.
We have now been given the dates for Y4 swimming. These will take place during the morning commencing on Tuesday 9 January and will be every Tuesday for 10 weeks, which means the last session will take place on Tuesday 20 March. Letters giving more information about this will be sent out after Christmas.
Flu Immunisation Programme
As the Flu Immunisation Programme had to be abandoned last Friday due to the weather, we have now been given a date for this to be continued, Wednesday 3 January in the afternoon. Consent forms are still held in school.
Y4 Condover 21 – 23 March 2018
Thank you to those who have completed paperwork and paid deposits. There are still a lot of children who have not returned them. If you would still like your child to take part in this visit please return the paperwork by Friday 5 January. If you require a replacement pack please contact Mrs Watson in the Main Office.
The 100% attendance certificates and stickers for this term and half term will be issued after the Christmas holidays. The 3 snow days (Friday 8, Monday 11 and Tuesday 12 December) will not be included in the attendance figures so it is taking us longer to calculate these than usual.
Term Dates 2018 - 2019
You should have received a copy of these last week. If you did not, or if they became lost in the mayhem of snowmen and snowballs, please check our website. They will be published there as soon as possible.
