15 June 2018
It was wonderful to see the field so full of friends and families to enjoy Sports Day again this year. We were lucky with the weather and saw lots of determined performances from the children. Thank you to everyone who made it possible, particularly Mr Cowdrill for doing the bulk of the organising. Congratulations to all teams, particularly Earth who won both the morning and the afternoon sessions, which sees them retain the trophy from last year.

Thank you to everyone who was able to attend one of the Open Day sessions. I know the children enjoyed seeing you in the classrooms and we enjoyed celebrating the 50 years work with you. As well as current parents and governors, we were also visited by grandparents, neighbours and former pupils (ranging from just a few years ago to two pupils who were in the first year group to attend). It was a pleasure to unveil the John Fletcher Family Tree which is a stunning piece of artwork made by parents to commemorate this year. Please take time to look for it during next month’s Open Evening.
Year 4 Bible Presentation
The annual Bible Presentation for Year 4 will take place at St Michael’s Church on Wednesday 20 June at 11am. All parents are welcome to attend.
The ‘Oscars’ ceremony on Monday, once again was an opportunity to share in the delight and pride of the class winners, some of whom were first time recipients. One such ‘Oscar’ has been a constant companion all week for his custodian and has been on his travels around the school!
The class trophies were retained by last week’s winners, 1H and 6CW, but the competition was a close-run thing. Our certificate totals now stand at 59 Gold, 371 Silver and 1959 Bronze. Like last year, we have entered the Mathletics Summer Competition which will run from the 25th of June until the 1st of July. Children, you’ve got a week to get warmed up!
This is to take place on Friday 22 June. Please support this as much as you are able. Raffle tickets came home earlier in the week. If you would like more, please contact the school office. I look forward to seeing you there (unless you have a wet sponge in your hand!)
Clubs will still be on as usual, if you do not wish your child to attend their club on this day please inform the office so we can keep the children safe.
Abernant Visit November 2018
A reminder that the second instalment of £40 is now due for the Y6 Residential Visit in November 2018. Thank you to those who have already paid.
Last Friday, we took a team of year 6’s to Telford Athletic Track for the Telford and Wrekin Primary Schools Athletics Competition. All had various individual events followed by a team relay. Everyone was fantastic in each of their events with our cricket ball thrower (shotput) earning himself a bronze medal, well done!
KS2 Swimming Gala
Last Monday evening, our swimming team went to Wellington Leisure Centre for the Primary Schools Swimming Gala. It was a brilliant event for all our swimmers, sadly no medals. However, each race was fantastic, swimming against some of the best swimmers in the county. Well done to all of our swimmers!
Year 3 football match
Our Year 3 team took on the challenge of Lightmoor Primary School on Thursday night. For the majority of the team, it was their first ever competitive football match but by the 2nd half you couldn’t tell. After going down to two quick goals, the boys slowly filled with confidence and understood their roles within the team. They took the game to Lightmoor, scoring a great team goal. Sadly the game finished 3-1 but that didn’t take the smile of everyone’s face, they all represented the school fantastically!
Times Tables Rockstars
To celebrate the World Cup we will be adding a dish to the menu from the country that England play. On Monday 18th England are playing Tunisia, therefore we will have a chicken and olive couscous dish for the children to try. This will be alongside the usual menu. On 24th June they are playing Panama, details of this dish will follow.
This week’s winners of the attendance awards are as follows:
