School Council- Food Survey
This week we went around the KS2 classes to get some feedback about the school dinner menu. We then did a small check with Miss Wilkes and went to meet with Mrs Kathy Dennis (our fabulous chef) to see what she thought about the pupils’ opinions. She had a large smile on her face when we read out what the children enjoyed from her delicious menu. She was also delighted when we told her what the children had requested to be added to her menu. She has taken on board our suggestions where she can, so we look forward to the Summer term menu. We would like to give a huge thank you to everyone who helped us. John Muir Award
A reminder that the consent forms and payment for Year 5 to take part in this exciting award need to be returned by the end of January for the activities to begin on 2 February. We appreciate this has come straight after Christmas therefore payment can be made in instalments by contacting the school office. We are not issuing payment cards but receipts will be issued which will also state the remaining balance.
Year 5/6 Boys Cluster League
The boys have started 2018 in fantastic form. Last Friday saw the visit of a well-established Redhill Primary School team. John Fletcher knew they would have to be at their best to get a result. A high quality start saw both goalkeepers making fantastic saves to keep the score down, John Fletcher went ahead after an unlucky own goal from a well-executed corner. Shortly after, a great passing counter attack saw John Fletcher go up 2-0 at the break. The 2nd half didn't disappoint with John Fletcher producing some of the best defending we have seen in their purple tops, throwing their bodies into blocks, tackles and making fantastic clearances. Everyone was up for the battle. Another great run down the wing and a cut back cross saw John Fletcher score a third goal. Redhill eventually got the goal they deserved but the final score was 3-1.
On Wednesday, the team went to Windmill Primary for their third Cluster league match. John Fletcher went full of confidence and it showed on the pitch, the passing and moving was fantastic and they ripped Windmill apart. A great 7-0 victory, which could have been more if not for some great saves from Windmill's goalkeeper and the decision to call the game off early. A special mention to the debut of a Year 4 in goal – he didn't disappoint with a confident spell.
It has been brilliant to see the team performances develop and improve with each player becoming more confident within their roles. Thank you to all who have braved the cold and supported the team.
Change of Menu
On Tuesday 13 February there will be pancakes on the menu as well as the normal puddings, for Shrove Tuesday.
In addition, on Wednesday 14th February there will be a Valentines Lunch instead of the usual roast dinner day. The menu will be as follows:

Last week, some ‘fierce’ competitions for the ‘Oscars’ resulted in new Hall of Fame entrants and created some first-time winners who proudly received custody of their owls on Monday. 2Y retained their leadership of the KS1/EYFS trophy whilst 6CN took over the lead in KS2. Another two Gold certificates were earned recognising a fantastic ongoing commitment to working on Mathletics. The year’s total is now 740 Bronze, 143 Silver and 13 Gold certificates.
Parent Consultation Evenings
If you haven’t yet returned your slip, please do so as soon as you can to allow staff to allocate appointments. With nearly 400 children, this is a time consuming activity and we try to ensure there are no clashes. Late (or non) returns hinder this process hugely. Thank you.
Routine Eye Tests
Letters were sent out this week to all the children in Reception classes regarding the routine eye screening programme. Parents only need to return the reply slip if you do not wish for your child to participate. We ask for any parents opting out to return forms to us by Friday 26 January. Thank you.
Please remember to park safely and considerately on the roads around school. Tesco are willing for parents to park on their car park and walk the short distance to school. When parking near school please do not park on the pavements causing obstructions for pushchairs and pedestrians. Thank you for your co-operation.
School discos for all children will be held next Friday. Please note that reply slips and money for all children need to be sent to school by Wednesday 24 January in a named envelope. Thank you.
