20 July 2018
And so we come to the end of another very busy and long year during which the children have had many wonderful opportunities, with new experiences being added all the time. I should like to thank all the staff who have continued to give everything they can for the children and who will now be having a well-earned rest. Thank you, also, to all the parents who have continued to offer your support to what we are trying to do and to help your children. I hope you all have a great summer too.
Last night we were treated to a fantastic leavers’ performance where Y6 shared their memories, skills and talents with staff and their parents. They followed this with pizza and dancing. Well done to them all and we wish them good luck as they continue their educational journey.
Malcom Webster Cup
After the sad passing of Malcom Webster this year, a football tribute competition was set up at Hollinswood Primary School (where Malcom used to teach) on Monday. This was a ‘less competitive’ competition, with 8 primary schools from across Telford and Wrekin. We took a team of Year 5/6 boys to compete; they were fantastic and represented the school well. They finished 4th overall, after losing their final game 1-0. Well done boys!
Any medication that has not been collected from the Main Office by the end of the school day today will have been disposed of. If your child needs medication when we return in September please hand in to the office on the first day when a new form for the new academic year will have to be completed. Asthma Inhalers will be sent home with the children. Again if these are not taken home they will be disposed of. Also new asthma paperwork will have to be completed for the new academic year to ensure we have the most up to date information.
Unfortunately, not much of the lost property has been claimed. A selection has been kept for use as spares but due to the amount of lost property we get and space restrictions this has now had to be disposed of. It would be of tremendous help to us if you could ensure that all items of school uniform are named in preparation for the new year. Thank you.
Year 6 Residential Visit
A reminder that the 4th payment is due on 12 September.
Year 4 Residential Visit
A reminder that there is a meeting at 6pm on Wednesday 26 September for all parents of children in Year 4. Thank you to those who have paid the deposit for their children to attend this visit. If you would still like your child to attend there is still time but we must receive the deposit by 26 September as we have managed to negotiate with Condover an extension for us to pay. At present 39 out of 56 children have returned Consent Forms. Payment cards have been given to all children whose deposits have been received.
This week was a week of change, 1H were proud winners of the EYFS/KS1 whilst 4G moved in to take the trophy from their year group partner class. The Oscar owls were presented for the last time to the weekly class winners and we also celebrated the year’s champions for each class. At a class level, the year’s totals were amazing. 6CW have amassed 1,578,770 points, 2Y 499,437 points and LD, which only has 8 pupils, 254,482 points! Our certificate totals now stand at 82 Gold, 398 Silver and 2128 Bronze. Congratulations to all the children who have put so much effort in!
Times Tables Rockstars
There has been a lot of fevered activity in Year 6 this week resulting in 5 new Rock Heroes. We also have 32 Rock Legends who have all reached speeds of less than 2 seconds per question and 22 Rock Stars who have dipped under the 3 second barrier.
This week, we said goodbye to Miss Richards and Mrs Pugh whose contracts finished today. We also said goodbye to Mrs McNamara and Mrs Smith who have decided now is the time to retire, with each of them receiving a letter from the Local Authority for their long service of over 20 years. Mrs Wiley, Mrs Canty and Mrs Aston also received this recognition. Mrs Gwilt has also decided it is time to retire and we said goodbye to her yesterday.
I should like to thank all the staff leaving us for their dedication and contribution to the school and wish them all the very best of luck for the future.
Mrs Gladwin will be returning from her maternity leave on a part-time basis in September and will cover some PPA release for years 3-5 as well as developing the writing throughout the school.
Miss O’Shea and Miss Cottey also leave us after successfully completing their teacher training and will move to teaching jobs within Telford and Wrekin. Good luck to you both.
This week’s winners of the attendance awards are as follows:
A* Attendance: 4G with 99.23%

Today we awarded 103 children with 100% attendance during the Summer Term (with no lates) and 22 children received a 100% attendance certificate for the whole academic year (with no lates). This is a tremendous achievement – well done to them all.
