Tuesday 19 September
Tuesday was an emotional day for all in school. I would just like to thank everyone for their support in marking this day in a very special way. All money raised will be distributed to the families of Lucas and Liam - £157 going to each family.
Family Photo Shoot
The family photo shoot held earlier in the year in support of Liam Finazzi and his family raised an amazing profit of £515 which has been passed to the family. Many thanks to Kidz in Focus for their support of this. We have also passed on the profits from the sports day refreshments and ice cream sale we held at the end of the summer term.
Mythical Creatures Day
School looked magnificent today with so many mythical creatures around the place. This has really enhanced the children’s learning and the staff have commented on how great the children looked. Thank you.
Year 3/4 football match.
On Tuesday, Grange Park came to visit for our first friendly of the academic year. The boys played fantastically well as a team, with some brilliant team goals. A great first win, with good foundations to build on. Thank you to all who came and supported.
Y5/6 Girls Football - Cluster league
The girls started the new cluster league with a great win over Meadows Primary, 6-1. A fantastic performance from every player, developing great passing throughout the game, with well-worked team goals. Well done to everyone involved – we have another 5 fixtures left. There is a link on the Grange Park website to see the results and table unfold.
Year 6 Abernant
A correction to the diary dates, the final meeting for this visit is to be held at 6pm on 18 October which is a Wednesday.
After School Clubs
A reminder that there will be no after school clubs next week, week commencing 25 September, due to the Parent Consultation evenings.
Operation Christmas Child
This week during Collective Worship we have launched our Operation Christmas Child appeal. It has been very successful in previous years. If you would like to pack a shoebox, all of the details are in the accompanying letter. All shoeboxes will need to be sent into school by Thursday 9 November.
You may have heard rumours overnight of an incident in school yesterday. To dispel these rumours: one of the Y6 children thought she had seen a child going down the alley to St Michael's. Very sensibly she reported this to staff. Staff then immediately put into practice the procedures of checking that all children were safely accounted for. This proved to be the case and the sighting was a false alarm. At no point were any children in danger, although a few children needed to briefly interrupt their lunch. Had there been reports of any strangers, lockdown procedures would have been implemented to ensure all children were taken inside immediately. Well done and thank you to all the staff involved and to the children for being so sensible.
The governors have been investigating the possibility of having the gates from the playgrounds locked using a keypad or keyfob system to add even more security to the site. More news on this when it is available.
In the second week of our Mathletics competition, the class trophies were won by LD and 6CW. The former’s success is particularly noteworthy considering the small number of children in the class – well done! As hoped, all of the individual ‘Maths Magician’ owls (with the exception of YR, who are just being logged on to Mathletics) were able to leave the nest this week during the ‘Oscars’ ceremony and have been roosting with their respective winners. We were also pleased this week to present two UK Hall of Fame certificates to children in Y6. It is great to see so much effort being put in across the school.
Parents on Site
To help us keep the children safe, please could parents of children in 3B leave the children on the playground so they can make their own way up the steps to their classroom. If you have a message that needs passing on, please either see the adult on the playground or in the courtyard, or pop to the main office. Thank you.
Additionally, please could parents collecting KS2 children from the playground stay to the left of the path (behind the cones that will be put out again from Monday). This makes it much easier for staff to “spot” parents when dismissing the children. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
Please note that Breakfast Club has now reached its capacity. If you are interested in having a place, please contact the school office and you will be placed on the waiting list.
Parent Consultation Evenings
Don’t forget to check your children’s bags for your appointment times. If you are unable to make the appointment, please let the office know as soon as you can as this will help us run the evening more efficiently.
