Phonics Meeting 20.05.22 Year 1 parents

Year 1 Phonics Screening Meeting

Dear Parents/Carers,

Due to the low numbers attending the phonics meeting last week, I will be holding another meeting this Friday 20th May at 9am.

As you are aware at the end of year 1, the children will be sitting the phonics screening test in line with national guidance. To help prepare the children for this they have daily phonics lessons and additional opportunities throughout the day to support their learning. At our school we follow the Read Write Inc scheme which you will be familiar with from the children’s reading books and the online resources on our website. To further help your child pass the phonic screening, this meeting will give you information and resources on how best to support your child at home.

After the meeting you will have an opportunity to see the phonics groups taking place around the school. This will also give you the opportunity to ask any questions that you may have.

Please can you confirm your attendance by emailing michelle.azzopardi1@taw.org.uk or calling the school office.

I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible.

Kind regards,

Miss Azzopardi

(RWI Leader)

Baby Chicks! Reception Newsletter 12.05.22

Wow, what a busy week Reception have had this week! We had an EGG-citing delivery this week! On Monday we had 10 eggs delivered to Reception class, and this week we have been watching them hatch. Today all 10 eggs hatched into beautiful chicks. We have 4 boys and 6 girls.  We then did some amazing writing about our eggs and we got to hold them which we really enjoyed. We have also read the story ‘What the Ladybird Heard’ and made some ladybird biscuits and wrote some lovely sentences about the story. In maths Reception have been learning how to find missing numbers in a sequence.

Reception newsletter- 25.03.22

Wow! what another busy week the children in reception have had! Wednesday was maths day and the children had so much fun coming dressed as robots, we carried out lots of maths activities such as; learning our number bonds and singing the number bonds to 10 song  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lD9tjBUiXs0

We have also been carrying out problem solving questions in maths, which is making us think a little deeper about our maths work. We have also been learning all about the story ‘Sharing a Shell’  linked to our topic of ‘Under the Sea’ which is about a crab who is very kind and shares his shell. We then discussed the importance of sharing in school and how it makes us feel when we share.  We are also looking forward to our trip to the sea life centre on Thursday 7th April, if you haven’t already done so, please bring your permission slip and money to school as soon as you are able to.

Many thanks,

Miss Azzopardi and Mrs Nicholls

Reception Newsletter Friday 11th March 2022

Wow, what a busy week reception have had this week. On Wednesday we went on our very first school trip to Oakengates theatre to watch Zog. The children’s behaviour was impeccable and they made all the adults very proud. The girls also had great fun with Mr Cusden this week playing football and learning lots of skills.  As a class we then discussed all the jobs we could do when we are older and how no job is out of reach if we work hard and try our best, we then drew pictures of what we wanted to be when we are older.  We also met the dog mentors George and Teddy this week, we were so excited when they came into our class, we remembered all our the rules when we saw the dogs and George and Teddy even showed us some of their tricks. We cant wait to read them and teach them phonics!

Reception trip to see Zog!

Reception are really excited to watch Zog and the flying doctors at Oakengates Theatre on Wednesday 9th March 2022.

Letters have been sent out to all parents/carers, please return the slip with the money as soon as possible or the trip will be unable to go ahead.

Thank you,

Miss Azzopardi and Mrs Nicholls

1 Minute maths app

1-Minute Maths offers children engaging and easily accessible practice in basic number. There’s no specific route or starting point. Having chosen a topic, each user answers a series of randomly generated questions (a different set of questions every time means they learn the concept, not a sequence of answers).

When the one minute’s up, the questions are automatically marked and presented on a breakdown screen, giving instant feedback on how they’ve done. If they’re struggling with a question, a ‘Hint’ button reformats the question as a familiar manipulative display that mirrors the approaches used in the White Rose Maths schemes of learning.

Have fun!

Reception newsletter 09.12.21

The children in Reception loved taking part in today’s Santa Dash, thank you to all those who contributed. (They will certainly sleep well tonight)

This week we have been reading The Jolly Christmas Postman. The children loved spotting all the different characters they knew in the story. We have done lots of fantastic writing using all the sounds we have been learning.

In Maths we have been looking at shapes. The children have been on a shape hunt to identify shapes they recognised in their environment.

You will find lots of learning on Tapestry and don’t forget you can upload your child’s home learning so we can celebrate this in class.
