Welcome to Year 6

Semi-Final Glory!

Telford and Wrekin Plate Finalists 2022

They’ve done it!  The Year 5/6 Football team produced a remarkable performance to storm into the Telford and Wrekin Plate Final with a 7-1 thumping of Lilleshall.

Roared on by the return of spectators, it was a complete performance with John Fletcher dictating play from start to finish.  Using home field to their advantage, the team produced a masterclass in passing and movement giving their opponents very little possession throughout the entire game.  It didn’t go all their way though. They had to regroup after conceding an early penalty (despite the goalkeeper very nearly making a fantastic save).  However, a team’s strength can be seen through their reaction to adversity and John Fletcher powered their way back into the match through patiently sticking to their game plan of pass and move.  Sure enough, before half-time the tie had turned in John Fletcher’s favour with a comfortable 3-1 lead established.   With key players really showing their class, John Fletcher burst out of the gate to quickly put the tie beyond doubt, taking a 5-1 lead.  To their immense credit, Lilleshall didn’t crumble and despite being 5-1 down they kept trying to impose themselves on the game.  Their goalkeeper and their captain both delivering standout performances.  However, John Fetcher were relentless. They pressed the opposition at any opportunity and forced them into errors.  Two more goals were added giving them a deserved 7-1 victory (including a second successive hat-trick for our centre forward and a first hat-trick for another player).  The final whistle signalled huge celebrations amongst players and supporters alike.

As coach, I would like to say thank you to all the players for such a disciplined and complete performance.  My goalkeeper and defenders had very little to do but they followed the game plan, allowing our attackers to flourish further forward.  Special praise goes to the defender who was involved in the early penalty decision as they went on to deliver their standout performance of the season.  In midfield, we are blessed with some wonderful talent and to see our playmaker sitting deep and metronomically dictating the pace of the game was a joy to behold.  Around them our wide players did their job of stretching play and delivering crosses.  As always, one of them picked up a tap in goal by remembering to support the attack as well.  Our striker did what they do best by continually providing an outlet for our midfielders and seizing chances as they presented themselves, earning the reward of a second successive hat-trick.

Thank you to all the spectators, parents and colleagues, because you made a special day for the team even more fantastic.  We move on to the final in buoyant mood and look forward to giving you another great afternoon in the very near future.

News of our final’s venue and opponents will follow.

Our week in Year 6

We are so proud of how Year 6 have stepped up to the challenge of our mock SATs.  The children have worked with all their heart and have all made fantastic progress.  When the children haven’t been taking their tests, they have enjoyed revising in a range of different ways and even George and Teddy came to help!

Please ask Year 6 to share their letter with you which also includes their homework for the weekend.  Despite all of our hard work, we haven’t lost our sense of humour!

Please ensure Year 6 have an early night on Sunday evening so that they are in school bright and early ready for the real SATs on Monday morning.

Have a lovely and safe weekend and we will see you next week.

Mrs Welsh, Mrs Wust, Mrs Constantine, Mrs Gladwin and the Year 6 team.
