Welcome to Year 6

Children in Need 17.11.23

Dear Parents/Guardians,

As you may already know, this week is this year’s BBC Children in Need Appeal Week. John Fletcher of Madeley Primary School is excited to be joining with many others around the UK to help raise awareness.

Children are welcome to come to school on Friday 17th November in their own clothes.

Due to the cost-of-living crisis, parents are not expected to contribute but if you would like to donate, you can do so here;

Donate using the ‘70701’ shortcode (Campaign dates: 31st Oct 2023 to 30th Nov 2024) –

Text the word ‘FIVE’ to 70701 to donate £5

Text the word ‘TEN’ to 70701 to donate £10

If children have PE on Friday (Y3 and Year 1) they will need to wear sensible footwear.

For further information please see https://www.bbcchildreninneed.co.uk/donate/

Thank you for your continued support.

Kind regards

Miss E Harrison

Our week in Year 6

This week Year 6 have been continuing with our writing and have been basing it on the Song – Titanium and the video.

We have written setting descriptions, looked at how as authors we ‘Show’ how the writer is feeling and not ‘tell’ and finally we have looked at how to use dialogue to progress a story. While ensuring that we are including all the Year 6 grammar and punctuation. In order to support our writing ,which involved contacting the emergency services, Year 6 have learned how to carry out a 999 call.

Anti-Racism Workshop

On Tuesday, Year 6 had the pleasure of Heather joining us again for an Anti-Racism Workshop. Pupils were able to understand how as part of our ‘British Values’ this is important to be respectful of all cultures. Heather commented that she was very impressed by the questions and responses of the Year 6 pupils.

Science

In Science this week, we have been learning about classification and how to sort and record this appropriately. In order to support learning and understanding it was ‘essential’ that a variety of sweets were used to classify.

P.E.

As it is Summer time the pupils have been enjoying their time learning how to play rounders and develop throwing and catching skills. This also supports pupils working together as a team.

Year 6 Production

You may be aware that this Year we are putting on the production of ‘I’m an 11 Year Old, Get Me Out of Here!’. Auditions have taken place before half term and parts have been allocated. The performances are planned for the week beginning 10th July, there will evening performances to support parents unable to attend during the day. Further detail will follow. For homework we ask that pupils practise their lines and song words. This can also be downloaded from Appleplay and Spotify.
