Phonics- website links to access at home

Below are a list of useful Phonics Websites for Parents and Carers to access at home- these website will help improve your child’s reading and increase their chance of passing the phonic screening check in June.

I have also send out videos link to our phonic groups and free Ebooks for you to watch at home (please scroll down to see these links, or check your child’s class page). These website are also useful for all children who are in our Read,Write Inc groups across the school.

Year 1 and Nest Home Learning 25.03.2022

Due to staff shortages children in Year 1 and The Nest will be learning from home today. (25.03.2022)

 

For Phonics please watch 2 of the following videos:

Children reading Lilac or Red home reading books should watch the set 1 videos.

Children reading Green or purple home reading books should watch the set 2 videos.

Children reading Pink, Orange, Yellow or Blue home reading books should watch the set 3 videos.

 

The children in Year 1 have been learning about capacity this week. This will be next week’s new learning for the children that work in The Nest.

For Maths today please could you fill a container with water. It could be a bucket, the washing up bowl or any other large container you may have. Ask your child to investigate the best way of finding out the capacity of the container. We have been using non-standard measures this week so they will need to use a cup to find out how many cups of water the container holds. Allow your child to investigate how they will be accurate when they do this. They may need to do it a number of times. Do they need to scoop the water out of the container and count the amount of cups? Is it easier to fill a cup up and pour the water into the container each time? Is the cup full?

In Science this week we have been learning about how to classify animals. To consolidate this learning please watch the following videos and complete the quiz a little further down each page.

For PSHE have a look around your home and look potential hazards. Discuss how to keep safe.

Free online Ebooks- year 1

As part of our Read, Write Inc programme we are in a fortunate position to offer you free online reading resources linked to your child’s reading in school.

In order for you child to access all the wonderful books please log onto https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/login?active-tab=students

Once there you will need to log into using your child’s unique class log in username and password.

password -STEM

This username and password works for both year 1 classes. Once you have logged in, click the Read, Write Inc ebooks selection picture, then once you have clicked that, it shows you all the levels of books. Your child will be one of these colours. If you need to know what colour book your child is on, then please ask their teacher or email michelle.azzopardi1@taw.org.uk

Please do use this for your child to read as often as possible at home, if they have read their reading book at home at least 3 times and with fluency and comprehension then please explore the books that are online.

1 Minute maths app

1-Minute Maths offers children engaging and easily accessible practice in basic number. There’s no specific route or starting point. Having chosen a topic, each user answers a series of randomly generated questions (a different set of questions every time means they learn the concept, not a sequence of answers).

When the one minute’s up, the questions are automatically marked and presented on a breakdown screen, giving instant feedback on how they’ve done. If they’re struggling with a question, a ‘Hint’ button reformats the question as a familiar manipulative display that mirrors the approaches used in the White Rose Maths schemes of learning.

Please see our weekly CHAT blurb for your child’s Maths homework. We also ask that you hear your child read their reading book at least 3 times a week. Please read to your child as often as possible to develop their love of reading.
