1N Newsletter 05.07.24

It was so lovely to see you all for last week’s picnic and sports day. We were so lucky with the weather and the children really enjoyed competing in all the different races. They did themselves proud.

On Monday we had transition time where the children spent the morning with Mrs Painter, their new Year 2 teacher. The children enjoyed reflecting on their year and discussing what they were looking forward to next year.

This week in Maths, the children have been learning about money and identifying different coins and notes and knowing their value.

They have been using their previous learning of counting in 2s, 5s and 10s to find total amounts.

In our English this week we have been learning how to use a question mark  and identifying different question starters like, who, what, where, when and why.

In Science we have continued our learning about seasonal changes and looking at how many daylight hours there are in different seasons.

We have had a few children who have recently lost jumpers or cardigans. Please can you ensure their clothing is clearly named and check if your child may have possibly bought home someone else’s uniform.

I hope you have a lovely weekend,

Mrs Nicholls

1N Newsletter 21.06.24

This week the children have been working very hard within all of their lessons.

In our Literacy lessons the children have been sequencing the story of ‘The Runaway Iceberg’ and then made changes to the story to create their own. They have remembered lots of facts about the Antarctic and included some of the animals that live there in their own stories. We’ve been working very hard on our letter formation and using capital letters and full stops.

In Maths we have been learning about position and direction. Using vocabulary such as above, below, left , right, forwards, backwards to describe how something has moved. This is linked to the homework that has been set for this week and are things you can practice with your child at home.

In Science we have been looking at seasonal changes and how to spot signs of Summer. Luckily the sun has finally come out!

We have also begun to discuss how to keep safe in the summer months by applying sun cream, wearing sunglasses and drinking water to keep hydrated.

There will be tables out on Friday morning and at the end of the day with jumpers and cardigans that are in our lost property for KS1. Please take a look to see if any of these may belong to you. We do encourage to make sure that your child’s belongings are clearly named, especially in the warmer weather when they are taking them off .

Have a great weekend.

****IMPORTANT: New Attendance and Leave in Term Time Information****

From August 19th 2024 the Government have introduced a new ‘national framework for Penalty Notices’. (in Telford & Wrekin the changes apply from 1st September 2024).

There are significant changes that parents need to be aware of:

  • If your child has 10 sessions of unauthorised absence in a 10 school week rolling period, you may be issued with a Penalty Notice. These 10 sessions may include any unauthorised absence, including leave in term time and do not have to be consecutive.
  • Penalty Notices are increasing to £160 from September 2024. This can be reduced to £80 but only for the first Penalty Notice issued, if paid within 21 days – this reduction does not apply to any subsequent Penalty Notice.
  • Any 2nd Penalty Notice, to the same parent for the same child, issued within three years of the date of the first Penalty Notice will be charged at a flat rate of £160
  • A third Penalty Notice will not be issued within a three year rolling period, to the same parent for the unauthorised absence of the same child, – alternative action or legal measures will be utilised for subsequent offences.
  • In some circumstances a ‘Notice to Improve’ may be issued – However, a Notice to Improve will only be used in cases where support is appropriate. They will not be issued in cases of unauthorised leave in term time for holidays, where information for parents is included on schools website or a simple warning by the school that a Penalty Notice could be issued if unauthorised leave in term time is taken will suffice.

‘Parents should always apply to the Headteacher for any request for leave in term time by completing a request form available from school.  (DfE guidance states schools should not authorise leave retrospectively so any leave in term time taken without a request being submitted will be unauthorised absence)’.

In developing and publishing the new national framework, the Government has renewed appeals to parents not to take their children out of school during term time.  The Governors and Headteacher of this school support this and students will only be given permission to take leave in term time if there are exceptional circumstances. The DfE Guidance Working Together to Improve School Attendance (Feb 2024) states that: Generally, the DfE does not consider the need or desire for a holiday or other absence for the purpose of leisure and recreation to be an exceptional circumstance. (Paragraph 38.)

Each application for leave in term time will be considered and if it is agreed and authorised the Headteacher will determine the duration of any leave. However, if the application is not agreed and the absence occurs the dates will be unauthorised. Parents will be notified of any decision in writing. This notification may be hand delivered directly to the parent or posted to the parents’ home address.

As a school we are asked to inform you that in line with Telford and Wrekin Council Policy, if your child is absent for 10 school sessions within a 10 week rolling period and that absence is unauthorised, you may be subject to a Penalty Notice fine, criteria is as detailed above.

Our week in Reception – 14.06.24

New books!

Dear Parents/ Carers,

A little while ago we held our annual book fair. From the books that were bought, our school gained reward points that we were able to spend on brand new books for the whole school. The children spent time in class, selecting the texts that they would like to read. A very exciting delivery came this week! Here is just a small selection.

Thank you to all of our families who have made this possible. We know the children are extremely excited to get reading!

West Midlands Safari Park- Year 6

Dear Parents/Carers

We would like to take our Year 6 children to West Midlands Safari Park on Monday 15th July.

The children will be leaving school by coach at 9:15 am and will be leaving the safari park at 4:30pm with an aim to be back at school for 5:30pm (traffic depending).

Your child will need a packed lunch provided as we will be at the safari park all day.  If you would like to order a school packed lunch you will need to indicate this via Parent Pay at the earliest opportunity.  Children will also need plenty of drinks which need to be in a plastic bottle (no glass or fizzy/energy drinks please). Children must be in their school uniform and wear suitable shoes for walking. We expect that the weather will be warm so please ensure your child has plenty of drink, sun hat and sun cream.

There is a charge for this visit and a voluntary contribution of £25.09 is needed to cover the cost of transport, access to the safari park and rides. If we do not receive sufficient funds to cover these costs the visit won’t be able to go ahead.  Payment will be made through Parent Pay and this will act as your consent for the trip.

Please complete the payment (and give consent) by Wednesday 10th July If you have any issues with payment, please do not hesitate to contact us. Thank you for your co-operation and support with this fantastic experience.

Yours sincerely,

Mrs Gladwin and Mrs Lawman-Smith
