World Book Day Friday 8th March 2024

World Book Day is taking place on Friday 8th March. As a school we are going to be celebrating this day and have chosen the theme “Snuggle up with a good book!” On this day, we are asking pupils to come into school wearing their favourite pyjamas and snuggly clothes. This is so we can all snuggle up with a good book and immerse ourselves in the world of literature. Children are invited to bring their favourite book from home.

Throughout the day, pupils will take part in a range of exciting hands on and virtual activities to enhance their reading and ensure they are continuing to grow their love of reading. There will also be some challenges such as guess which staff member is snuggled up with a good book.

Parents are invited into school to share a book with their child on Friday 8th March, from 2:50pm. Please enter via the main office where you will be shown to your child’s class. At the end of the shared reading session, please leave the school via the office to sign out.

Children will be given a £1 book token to be spent at our school Book Fair or in a local bookstore on a range of identified World Book Day texts. You can find your local bookstore and have a look at the books available by visiting: https://www.worldbookday.com/books/

From Friday 8th March – Wednesday 13th March we will have our annual book fair. The book fair will be held in the South Hall on these dates from 3:30-4:00pm. This an opportunity for you and your child to browse a range of exciting books from a range of genres and purchase one or maybe more. Further information regarding the book fair will be sent nearer the time.

Welcome back Year 2!

Happy new year everyone! I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas. We are very excited to see everyone back at school and share with you our new topic ‘The Great Fire of London’.

KS1 Christmas Performances

You are now able to book your place to watch the KS1 Christmas Performance via ParentPay. There will be two performances. One at 10am and one at 2pm. As always, places are limited to two per family in total. This is due to health and safety restrictions of our school hall. There will be no cost involved, but you must book your place via ParentPay. Only 2 tickets will be issued for each performance, so please mention the number you require via ParentPay. We will not be issuing paper tickets this year, as we will create a register of who is attending.
We are sorry, but due to the constrictions of our school hall, we are unable to accommodate non-school children to watch the performances, even sitting on knees.
As you can imagine the children are already very excited and the performance will be an excellent opportunity to make some lovely memories. We look forward to seeing you!
(As a side note, we are finalising dates for our KS2 Performances. As soon as I am able to, I will let you know more details!)

Dear Parents/ Carers,

Thank you for supporting your child’s reading this half term and for attending our phonics workshops so far. More will be added to the calendar in the next term and we look forward to working with you to further support your children’s phonics.

This week Reception, Year 1, 2 and 3 children have their E-book assigned via their Oxford Owl account. Reception children that can recognise the first 26 sounds and are beginning to blend these sounds into words, will now have a sound blending book weekly in addition to their reading for pleasure book. They will also be able to access their sound blending book on Oxford Owl as well. Letters have been sent out this week with your child’s log in.

Class teachers will continue to assign these E-books every Friday. If you need any support logging into your child’s account, please ask your child’s class teacher. Please ensure your child returns their book each Thursday in order to receive their new one on Friday. If there are any issues with this please discuss with your child’s class teacher.

Year 2 Newsletter – 29.09.23

Our week in Year 2 – 29.09.23

This week in Maths, Year 2 have completed their unit on Place Value. They had been counting in 2’s, 3’s, 5’s and 10’s this week using objects and number lines to help them.

In Science, the topic this term is ‘Everyday materials’. The children have been exploring which materials would be best for certain objects. The children looked at materials such as wood, metal, plastic, sponge and paper. We then discussed as a class why certain materials were considered matter than others.

Reminders:

  • Homework and spellings will be sent home on Friday 6th October.
  • Homework is due in on Thursday 5th
  • The spelling test will take place Friday 6th October.
  • Reading books and a book for pleasure will be sent out on Fridays. E-books will be assigned on Friday.
